The Hot New (Old) Fad In Outdoor Furniture - Adirondack Is Back! It's not surprising that an all-American classic like the Adirondack Chair is making a great come back in only the last few years. This trend is quickly spreading because families all over the country are electing to spend more free time relaxing and kicking back in their thoughtfully planned outside living space. I myself remember as a 6 year old, sinking completely back into one of these familiar old chairs, with my legs hanging over the edge, while grandpa and I peeled apples and discussed the yummy apple pie piled with melting ice cream that we knew granny would have waiting for us after we had dinner. With my lemonade on the wide arm rest, the breeze was warm and soft. When Grandpa told his stories it made time fly by. It is truly no big mystery why we love to relax outdoors, whether it is out on the patio, on the deck, sitting on the front porch watch people go by, or in your garden area. There just might not be a better way to relax than to slide in to a high backed, deep seated, familiar Adirondack and leave your cares behind. You'll be shocked and satisfied to find a huge variety of Adirondack furniture on the market currently. Not only has the original design withstood the winds of time, but the whole Adirondack phenomenon has exploded with a pleasant array of colors, styles, material, and finishes. Traditional Adirondack furniture is built out of wood known to resist corrosion and bugs including oak, white or red cedar, cherry, or cypress. The wood that is chosen is going to vary depending on the part of the country as do specific designs. A hot new option in classic Adirondack style is lawn furnishings constructed with polymer "lumber" that's made from plastic recycled packaging, milk jugs, and other things. This isn't only an environmentally friendly way to get furniture, but you will also have some advantages with longevity, easy care, durability, and colors aren't going to fade because the pigment is mixed all the way through the plastic resin with UV inhibitors added for protection. So just where exactly did this bit of American culture come from? Well, the Adirondack Mountains in upstate New York, of course. This design was commonplace among the numerous mountain hide aways and resorts that were prominent in those days. By the 40's you could find Adirondack just about every place. The furniture design started to move south and quickly headed west . As the Adirondack design began to get more popular, and made its way around the country, influences regionally began showing up. The design was utilized in a large variety of styles of outdoor furniture which include; benches, porch swings, rocking chairs, gliders, and thanks to our French Canadian neighbors, a piece referred to as the "tete a tete" which means literally; "head to head". This romantic little design combines two chairs and a table in between them and is constructed as one piece. What an excellent way to spend a cozy Spring afternoon with a good friend!
