Getting Started
With eBay Selling
In July of 2005, more than 724,000 Americans reported
that eBay is their primary or secondary source of income. Another 1.5
million individuals said they supplement their income by selling on
eBay. It's easy to see that this is one of the greatest business
opportunities ever created, but how do you get started?
The details of creating an account are simple and explained in great
detail on ebay.com. The biggest question that needs to be
answered is, "What am I going to sell?". This really is the
essence of how to create a successful eBay business. Of
course, there are many strategies and tactics for getting the most
revenue from your auctions, but the biggest success factor by far is
product selection.
It's no secret that the formula for success in any business is to find
a high demand product at a price well below what people are willing to
pay for it. Once you find a source for a product like this,
all you need to do is present it to your target audience and watch the
sales start rolling in. Your profits will be increased by the
amount of traffic you can get to your auction and the spread between your
selling price and your acquisition costs.
This is where selling physical products on eBay can get
difficult. As more sellers join the ranks of eBay
entrepreneurs, competition becomes fierce and prices inevitably
fall. Margins become razor thin, and profits
suffer. The eBay seller is then forced to find cheaper
sources for their products or turn to new products
altogether. The whole process can become very laborious and
discouraging.
What if you could find a high demand product where your acquisition
costs were next to nothing? Not only that- what if you could
deliver this product instantly with no shipping or packaging
costs? It almost sounds like this type of product is too good
to be true- but it isn't. The one thing Internet surfers
desire more than anything is INFORMATION. The specific items I'm
talking about are information products.
These products can be e-books, audios, or videos. If you find the right
market with a high demand for specific information, you can tap
into a virtual gold mine. You don't even have to be a good
writer to create your own information products. There are
many sources for resale rights or public domain products that you can
resell. You can also interview an expert over the phone and
sell the recording as an info product. There are literally
dozens of ways to obtain good info products, many of which are very low
or almost no cost to you.
So when you're thinking about what to sell in your new eBay business,
don't try to develop thrift store strategies or try to find
"legitimate" wholesalers. Do your market research, and find a
large group with a demand for specific types of information.
Once found, do your best to provide that information in a
product. If you don't have enough knowledge on the subject,
find someone who does. If you put a quality product together,
you will have an invaluable asset that you can use to crush your
competition on eBay, as your profit margins will be over 90%.
